These are some of the extreme tests a plane goes through before it is delivered to an airline.

Skilled pilots spend hours in the sky and on the runway putting planes through a whole range of jaw-dropping tests.

Here, MailOnline Travel takes a look at the most dramatic, which include the plane taking off with its rear dragging along the runway and chickens being fired into the turbines.

Rejected take-off test

A rejected take-off (RTO) is one of the hardest tests an airplane has to undergo for its certification trials.

The RTO test is performed under the worst possible conditions, for example, with fully worn out brakes, the plane loaded to maximum takeoff weight and use of thrust reversers banned.
